This third workshop in the Consulting Skills programme focuses on mastery of group facilitation as part of the consulting process.
Who is the workshop aimed at?
The workshop is designed specifically for consultants who must work effectively with groups on business critical matters. It is oriented toward strategic planning, problem solving, decision making and handling conflict.
What are the programme objectives?
- Build contracts with groups and group leaders that lead to successful facilitation.
- Learn to importance of staying ‘in the process’ as a facilitator.
- Design meeting agendas and choose the most appropriate tools.
- Diagnose and intervene effectively in groups.
- Identify what make groups effective and identify issues that can reduce group effectiveness.
What are the expected outcomes of the programme?
- Develop the mindset and behaviour for facilitation mastery.
- Enable facilitators to help groups work together to get better results.
- Introduce a toolkit of adaptable group processes i.e. decision making.
- Build flexibility that allows facilitators to adapt and change when needed.
- Consultants will behave in ways that influence their ability to effect new and repeat engagements.
What will Consultants have the opportunity to learn during the workshop?
The workshop is an experiential programme designed to improve capabilities and behaviours while also enhancing each participant’s identity and beliefs around facilitation mastery. During the workshop Consultants will have the opportunity to discover:
- what makes groups effective and how this can be assessed.
- the mindset, core values and behaviours of a facilitator.
- how to develop and use ground rules to develop effective groups.
- using action enquiry as a means of increasing self-awareness, especially when dealing with difficult feedback.
- diagnosing behaviour in groups and choosing appropriate interventions.
- their own facilitation style, using practice sessions.
- how to build a contract with a group, what to do when things go wrong.
- specific tools for strategic planning, problem solving and decision making.
What is the format of the workshop?
This workshop is concerned with learning attitudes, strategies and technology rather than teaching theory. The workshop facilitators model the same contracting process and interventions that are taught during the workshop. This allows consultants to experience first hand the power behind each of the techniques. The workshop is structured to be driven by the participating Consultant’s needs and issues. New skills are learnt through active participation in a safe group environment where instant coaching and feedback is available.
